Lesson 4: Earn Revenue

Now we are to the part of my 4-step blueprint that we have all been waiting for. Making money! Whoo Hoo!

But wait, is that how it all works? You learn, set it up, and activate a plugin, and like magic, you make money? No, there is a bit more to it than that. So today, in lesson #4, earn revenue, we are going to keep moving forward.

Why Content is King

In the blogging and affiliate marketing world, it is so often said that “content is king,” but what does that mean.

Content is a blog post of any kind: a review, story, or informational piece. Content serves to draw Google’s attention to your site and give your readers information. With content, you solve a problem for your followers and give Google strong reasons to show your site to the world, thus drawing traffic.

But I’m Not A Writer

I have heard many new affiliate marketers say they are not writers. I have even seen many people stay away from affiliate marketing because of the fear of writing.

Anyone can write yes anyone. Only a few are born with the talent to write. The rest of us have to learn how to put our thoughts and research on paper.

Did you notice I said “research?” Research today is so awesome. Google has the answer to anything you ask. The amount of knowledge on the internet is astounding. And half the challenge of writing is to see what is out there that you can learn.

Create Your “About Me” Page

Let’s practice by writing your “About Me” page. It helps to understand why your business needs to be branded with you. So why do your readers need to know who you are? Here are just a few reasons:

  • Trust
  • Authority
  • Value
  • Real Person

Your followers want to know that you are a real person behind your internet persona. They want to know what you like and where you came from. From this, they can build trust in your word and know that you are an authority in your field. You want them to value your products through your integrity and honesty.

Authority, in this case, does not mean you know everything. It does mean that you are willing to serve them and help them solve their problems with what you offer. And it means you are willing to find the answer for them.

How To Start

Begin by logging into your backend website. Go to pages on the dashboard. Remember, this is a page because it is static. It will stay put in one place on your site. Click on “Add New.” If you want to know more about using the WordPress Block Editor, follow this link to my article.

I want to remind you of a critical piece of information. Never copy words directly from another site or the internet. Google frowns on plagiarism. You can use ideas, but the words need to be your own.

Let’s begin with research. Go to the internet to your favorite search engine and look up “about me” pages. You may need to rephrase it to include examples or why you need one or what to say in an about me page.

Make a mental note of what you find. Now you have a much better idea of how to start. Here is my about me page as an example.

If you notice, most of the about me pages have a photo of the business owner; in this case, that is you. This helps your readers know that you are real.

Keep your “about me” page positive. If you have had some rough spots in life, it is OK to mention them briefly but do not go into detail. Keep it all upbeat with a smile. Make sure you include a bit about why you have an affiliate marketing business. Again no detail but positive and brief.

Write like you are talking to a friend sitting beside you. This page is for your readers to let them know who you are. Tell people why you want to help and what problem you are solving. If you have a pet site promoting dog supplements, let your readers know that you are here to help their pets feel better and lead a healthier life.

As you noticed in your research, there is not a good length to an about me page. When it has the information, it needs you are finished.

When you are finished, save the draft but do not publish it yet. We will come back to publish it later. When you publish, you are welcome to send me the URL, and I will give you positive, constructive feedback.

Create A Privacy Policy Page

A Privacy policy is a legal document to disclose how you use the data you gather from your followers. It is essential to protect your business. A privacy policy has to have a visible link that is on each page of your website. The best way to display this is in the footer menu because it is on each website page. We will go over setting up your menu later in the lesson.

If you follow along with me at Wealthy Affiliate, you will have a template to set up your privacy policy. If you are on another platform, you will need to research privacy policies on the internet. There are some free templates you can use. Here is a link to my privacy policy as an example.

Site Content also has spell check and plagiarism check to make your writing experience more comfortable.

When you have your “About Me” page, and your “Privacy Policy” Page completed, go back to each one and publish them. We are now going to set up a menu to display each one.

Set Up The Menu To Display Your Pages

When a visitor lands on your website, you want them to find all of your content. You want them to navigate your site with ease. For this reason, we will learn how to set up a menu. And we will add your 2 new pages to it.

All themes are slightly different, but they all offer a menu area. I am using the GeneratePress Premium theme to demonstrate. Follow these steps, which I have also outlined in the images below.

  1. In the dashboard click on “appearance “
  2. Click on “Menus”
  3. The menus page will open
  4. Name you menu
  5. “Save” your new menu
  6. click on “Create a new menu” and repeat the steps to create a footer menu
  7. Select “edit menu” at the top
  8. Make sure you are on top menu (see step #13 to choose your menu)
  9. On the left side open the drop-down for “pages”
  10. Check-mark the “About Me” Page (Or what you named your about page)
  11. Click “add to menu”
  12. Click “save”
  13. Select “footer menu” and repeat the steps to put the privacy policy in the footer.

Your theme will display your “About me” in the header menu and the “privacy policy” in the footer bar at the bottom.

What Is A Keyword?

A keyword is a word or a chain of words that Google uses to find the information in your article or post. So a keyword or chain of words is what a person puts into the search bar when they are hunting for something in particular.

To find the keyword or chain of words we use a keyword finder and use the words in the title of our post. Google looks for those keywords and ranks our post on page one of the search engines. And when we are on page one, more people will find what we are offering, which means more traffic to our sites and more income.

How To Search Keywords For Your Content Title

If your niche is in cat or dog supplements, you want to write posts about products that will help your reader’s pets. You decide to write a product review on pet supplements for anxiety. In this article, you will address cat anxiety.

In lesson #1, I linked my Jaaxy review for you to become familiar with the use of Jaaxy. I will link it again here. It is vital to understand how to use Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool to move forward.

In these images, I searched “natural supplements for anxiety.” and found a few options. We will use “What Natural Supplements Help With Anxiety?”

You can add to the title clarifying that it is for cats, so your readers looking for pet supplements will know it is for their cat. Example title is: “What Natural Supplements Help With Anxiety To Calm Your Cat?”

In the title, you have included the chain of Keywords, exactly like you found them in the Jaaxy search, and added information to clarify the article.

You have to use the keyword or chain of words exactly as you found them in your Jaaxy search. You can add to the front or back of the keywords but not in the middle of the chain of words. And the keyword needs to make sense. So if you found “What natural supplements anxiety,” it does not make sense but “What natural supplements help with anxiety,” does make sense.
