6 Steps Of Advice For New Bloggers-Rank High On Search Engines

There are over 152 million people with blogs on the internet. Do you want to be in the top ranking numbers and create a passive income each year? As a new blogger these  6 steps of advice, can help you achieve your goal.

It is relatively easy to start a blog but you will need a good understanding of the basics of blogging and proper training. With training and the fundamentals under your belt, you should be able to begin blogging and keep up with the pace.

There is a blog on every topic imaginable. From sports, health and fitness, motivation, animals, to business.

I know you have run across some weird blogs also like Ugly Renaissance Babies and Fake Science. Weird blogs can also go viral.

Blogging is trendy today. Many have the thought of beginning a blog but don’t know where to start. Some blog as an outlet to record their thoughts and feelings. Others blog to impart information to readers interested in their niche.

People write blogs that go viral and produce great success, while others are never noticed by Google.

For your blog to be successful, you must follow some guidelines. I have put together 6 steps of advice for  you to follow to increase your chances of becoming a successful blogger.

1. Choose A Niche From Your Heart

If you choose a niche that is your hearts’ passion it will be easier to talk and write about it. Something you love and have knowledge on is easier to convey to the world.

Choosing a passion can present a problem. If your chosen passion and niche is popular such as fitness and weight loss or pets, you will have thousands of people who also have blogs like yours. Your niche determines your target audience, and you will have people who want to read this content but your competition will be high.

The only problem with choosing a niche like everyone else is the competitive edge in the search engines is increased. You will have to work a bit harder to get ranked on Google and have your blog at the top of page one on page one of the search engines.

What if you’re passionate about Vegetation at the north pole? The number of people in this niche will be minimal. Probably only a handful of people. A small audience to reach also requires work.

There is a solution to this problem. Identify your passion and do some research on how popular it is. Then choose a portion of it that does not have as strong of a competition.

There are tools available for you to research a niche. One I use is Jaaxy. But you can also use Google search engine which is free.

Type in your niche into the Google search bar, for example, if you want to use weight loss, you would put in weight loss in the search bar. Google will give you some suggestions like in the photo below.

And if you scroll down to the bottom, you will have more suggestions.

Any of these suggestions are types of things people will search.

Here is the same idea for Vegetation at the north pole.

As you can see, the suggestions for weight loss are a more significant number and more defined than they are for Vegetation at the north pole.

2. Write Content That Is Valuable And Fun

There is a saying, “Content Is King.” which means that Google wants to see good relevant content to show to your audience.

Your target audience wants information that will solve a problem. And along with a solution, your readers want to be entertained. So, when you write your blog, you want to give useful information that will keep them interested.

Write your words like you are talking to one person and interact with that person. Also, tell a story or let them see a piece of you in the article. Show your personality in your writing.

Offer a piece of you, helpful information, and make it fun. New followers will come back for more.

3. Write Content Weekly or Even Daily.

Some bloggers are as slow as a tortoise when it comes to updating their blog. Your followers want new and fresh content regularly.

I blog 2-3 times a week, and I know others who post 5 times a week. Not only is this beneficial to keep the interest of your readers, but Google will rank your site higher on the search engines.

A higher ranking increases followers and will increase revenue. It will become a snowball effect in time.

4. Know The Personality Of Your Readers

You must understand the personality of your readers. A general idea would be good. For example, if you’re creating a blog about surfing, generally, your audience will be fit men and women who are looking for excitement and dare to be the best. They will be looking for information that is on the edge and appeals to their adrenalin rush.

If you ran a blog about rose gardening for relaxation and tried to appeal to the excitement of the rush, you would be defeating your purpose of relaxation and lose your readers. Be sensible, understand your audience, and cater to them.

5. Create A Virtual Friendship With Your Readers

This piece of advice is imperative. A blog is an interactive website. Your readers want to connect with you and share their experiences. They want to ask questions and understand you better.

4 hands gesturing love and peace

Encourage interaction with questions; invite them to leave comments. Reply to the comments promptly. When someone writes a comment, they are watching to see how long it takes you to respond.

You are creating a virtual friendship that will keep your readers loyal and coming back for more. They want to know you are a real person, and they want to feel a connection to you.

While these are  5 of the 6 steps of advice for new bloggers, they are only a minor part of a blog. If you follow them, they will make a world of difference. Slip them in your back pocket and build on your foundation to creating a stronger blog presence.

I do have one more piece of advice.

There is more to creating an online presence than these first 5 steps of advice, but when you add #6, it can make the difference between success and failure.

Do you want to rank with the top bloggers or stay in the ranks of 152 million?

  1. Thank you for this great post!

You hit a lot of points right on the head.  I love number 1.  A niche you’re passionate about is so much easier to work with and has the added benefit of almost not seeming like work, to begin with.

I’m hit and miss when it comes to item 3.  I try for 2 posts per site per week but sometimes it’s one.  At the very least I always post every week but I’d like to do more.

I struggle with 4 and 5.  I try to connect but I don’t get that true back and forth I feel I need to make that connection.  I’m on top of my comments but I think I could be doing more, especially with my mailing list.

It’s funny you mention WA.  That’s the platform that got me started and I simply love the community.  To anyone reading my comment here, do yourself a favor and sign up for the free Starter account.  Where else can you truly try something for free to see if you like it or not?

Thanks again for these excellent tips!

  2. God. This was such a helpful article. I absolutely love writing but sometimes coming up with an idea and developing your story can be so draining and somehow complicated. Specially, if you’re like me and English is not your first language. You can take about half the time it would normally take anyone else because you need to be so cautious of what you’re saying and what you want to portrait. Thank you for this article. I’m sure it’ll help so many of us.

  3. Hi Laura. Thanks for you interesting article on Blogging. Your suggestions on using Google for finding a niche is very interesting and not something I have tried as yet. I do have a Jaaxy account and have been utilizing in for keyword searches. I finding actually choosing a niche the hardest part of all. Then sticking to that niche idea is even harder. I find myself wanting to write blogs on topics that are obviously not directed at my target audiences. You have given us some great advice, particularly on writing blogs consistently. I tend to write two or three in a week, then nothing for a month. Would it be wiser for me to write the three and release one each week? Thanks Jim

    • Jim, I use google search to find a niche and keywords on a regular basis. Jim, it sounds like your problem is focus and setting goals. My next post will help with this. It will be out in 4 days.

I do suggest you schedule your posts every so many days. Consistency is the key.
